Ector Co, TX – Semi-Truck Crash on I-20/MM 104 Results in Fatality and Injuries
Ector County, TX (October 24, 2024) – A fatal collision involving two semi-trucks occurred on October 20 along I-20 near mile marker 104. The crash, which took place around 11 a.m., tragically claimed the life of one individual and left another injured. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the accident occurred when Gregory Lee Dills, 60, of Shelby, North Carolina, driving a 2024 International Truck, struck the trailer of a 2022 Freightliner after experiencing a blowout in his front right tire. The Freightliner, driven by 66-year-old John Collingsworth Jr. of Canton, Texas, had slowed down to avoid debris on the road, leading to the collision. Dills was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where he remains in stable condition. Unfortunately, his passenger, Scott Allen Burgess, 68, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. Collingsworth was unharmed in the incident. DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
