Grovetown, GA – Wrong-Way Driver Collides Head-On with Semi-Truck on I-20 Near MM 188, Injuring Two

Grovetown, GA (September 10, 2023) – In an early Sunday morning incident on September 10th, two individuals were injured in a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck on I-20 westbound near mile marker 188, caused by a wrong-way driver.

Columbia County authorities report stated that Maria Acosta was driving the pickup truck in the wrong direction on the interstate. Adam Crooks, the semi-truck driver, couldn’t avoid the collision despite noticing Acosta’s vehicle approaching. Both vehicles crashed, with the semi-truck hitting a barrier cable in the median.

Rescue personnel had to extricate Maria Acosta and her passenger, Fulgencio Cruz, from the heavily damaged pickup truck. Both victims were immediately transported to the hospital to receive medical treatment for their injuries.

Fortunately, Adam Crooks, the semi-truck driver, had non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment on-site.

Maria Acosta admitted to consuming margaritas earlier in the evening, prompting toxicology tests.

Pending the investigation’s conclusion, charges against Maria Acosta are pending.
