Lexington County, SC – Fatality in Wrong-Way Crash on I-20 Near MM 42 Claims One Life
Lexington County, SC (June 24, 2023) – A tragic collision occurred on Interstate 20, resulting in the death of the driver who was traveling in the wrong direction in a 2003 BMW.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the incident, which occurred on the eastbound lanes of the highway near the 42-mile marker, approximately five miles south of Gilbert, South Carolina.
According to Corporal Tyler Tidwell of the highway patrol, the collision transpired at around 3:45 a.m. when the BMW, traveling west in the eastbound lanes, collided with a 2019 Ford pickup truck towing a trailer.
The impact caused the truck, which was traveling east at the time, to veer off the road to the right, resulting in its overturning. Meanwhile, the BMW swerved off the road to the left and collided with a tree. Sadly, the BMW driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Prisma Health Richland, where they succumbed to their injuries.
The truck driver sustained injuries and was taken to Lexington Medical Center for medical treatment.
Investigations into the crash are currently ongoing.
