Meridian, MS – Multi-Vehicle Collision on WB I-20/59 Near MM 154 Injures Nine
Meridian, MS (September 5, 2023) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred on the westbound lanes of I-20/59 near mile marker 154 last Saturday afternoon, September 2nd, leading to a substantial traffic jam in the area.
The incident involved a collision between an 18-wheeler and seven-passenger vehicles, resulting in a chaotic scene that brought traffic to a complete halt for several hours.
In response to the emergency, various law enforcement and first responder agencies, including the Meridian Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Meridian Fire Department, and Metro Ambulance, swiftly arrived at the accident site.
LEMA Director Odie Barrett disclosed that the 18-wheeler, laden with 16,000 pounds of plastic air conditioning pads, overturned along the roadside, spilling its cargo in the process.
MPD Detective Chanetta Stevens reported that nine individuals sustained injuries in the crash. They were promptly transported to local hospitals by ambulance, with their injuries determined to be non-life-threatening.
