Moody, AL – Pedestrian Killed in I-20 Crash Near MM 144
Moody, AL (December 28, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred early Christmas morning, December 25, on I-20 near mile marker 144, just west of Moody in St. Clair County. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the collision happened around 4:46 a.m. when a pedestrian was struck in the eastbound lanes. Authorities identified the victim as 51-year-old Tina M. Ottaway of Watertown, Tennessee. Investigators reported that Ottaway was in the roadway when she was hit by a 2008 Cadillac SRX driven by 43-year-old Christopher J. Freeman of Elmore. After the initial impact, the Cadillac left the roadway and struck a nearby concrete barrier. Ottaway suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Freeman sustained injuries and was transported to UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment. The Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
