Newton Co, GA – Two-Vehicle Crash on I-20 Leaves One Dead, Another Injured

Newton County, GA (February 25, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision early Monday morning, February 24, resulted in the death of one person and left another critically injured on Interstate 20 Westbound near mile marker 100, close to the Walton County line. 25According to Sgt. Christoph Ayers of the Georgia State Patrol Post 46, authorities responded to the scene around 3:42 a.m. following reports of a serious crash. Preliminary investigations, assisted by the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRTE), revealed that a passenger vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed with no headlights on, rear-ended a semi-truck in the right travel lane. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway, coming to a stop in the median.

Tragically, an unrestrained passenger in the car was killed on impact. The driver of the passenger car sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Grady Hospital for emergency treatment. Officials have yet to release the identities of those involved. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the passenger vehicle is expected to face multiple charges, including first-degree felony vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and additional traffic-related offenses. The investigation remains ongoing.
