Rankin County, MS – Fatal Collision on I-20 Near Exit 54 Claims One Life

Rankin County, MS (August 22, 2023) – A tragic collision on I-20 resulted in the loss of life as one person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday evening, August 20th.

At around 11:50 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) swiftly responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles on Interstate 20 East near Exit 54.

A 2019 Dodge Ram, driven by Marcal Collins, aged 36, from Quitman, MS, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane when it collided with a 2010 Honda driven by Ty O’neal, aged 59, from Pennington, AL.

Fortunately, the driver of the Dodge Ram emerged from the collision without sustaining any injuries. However, the driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for injuries of unspecified severity.

Tragically, 85-year-old Hattie Oneal, a passenger in the Honda and a resident of Brooksville, suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was declared deceased at the scene.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to conduct an in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heart-wrenching incident.
