Rockdale Co., GA – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-20/MM 80.9 Injures Pedestrian

Rockdale County, GA (December 24, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred on the eastbound I-20 in Rockdale County early Wednesday, December 24. Georgia State Patrol Post 46 officials said the crash occurred near mile marker 80.9 and required a full closure of the eastbound lanes while authorities responded and investigated. According to GSP Assistant Commander Christoph Ayers, Trooper First Class Killingsworth was dispatched to the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Dodge Challenger became disabled in the right travel lane and did not move onto the paved shoulder. Shortly afterwards, a Dodge Ram truck approached from behind and stopped partially in the right lane and partially on the shoulder. The driver exited the truck to assist the occupants of the disabled Challenger. While the driver was outside the vehicle, a Mercedes sedan approached from behind and struck the rear of the Challenger, then sideswiped the Dodge Ram. During the collision, the pedestrian was struck and came to rest at an undetermined location on the roadway.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that the pedestrian suffered serious injuries but was conscious and alert at the scene. The victim was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment. Investigators later determined that the driver of the Dodge Challenger was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team-East (SCRT-E) was called in to assist with the investigation, which remains ongoing.

We wish the injured pedestrian a strong recovery as authorities continue to determine liability.
