Tye, TX – Firefighter Injured After Semi-Truck Fire and Vehicle Wreck on I-20/MM 277
Tye, TX (March 19, 2025) – A firefighter was injured early Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle incident on I-20 westbound near mile marker 277. The crash involved an 18-wheeler that caught fire and a separate collision caused by a vehicle that ignored a police barricade. According to the Tye Fire Department, emergency crews arrived around 3:45 a.m. to find the semi-truck fully engulfed in flames. Due to the severity of the fire, additional support was requested from the Merkel Volunteer Fire Department. While firefighters worked to contain the blaze, a driver bypassed a police barricade, striking a Tye firefighter. The injured firefighter was immediately attended to by on-site paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, officials confirmed that the firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be released soon. Authorities stated that the driver responsible for the crash was taken into custody. The Tye Police Department has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
