Ragland, AL – Fatal Pedestrian Crash on I-20 near MM 131
Ragland, AL (November 24, 2025) – A tragic incident on Interstate 20 claimed the life of 18-year-old Jagger Thorne Cox on November 22. Authorities say Cox had been traveling westbound on I-20 near mile marker 131 when his vehicle became disabled around 4 a.m. After pulling to the shoulder, he exited the vehicle to assess the situation. Moments later, he was struck by an oncoming vehicle in the westbound lanes.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office pronounced Cox deceased at the scene shortly after 4:15 a.m. Responding officers from the Birmingham Police Department secured the area, redirected traffic, and began documenting the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision. Investigators are working to determine the contributing factors and whether visibility or roadway conditions played a role.
No additional details about the driver who struck Cox have been released. Responding crews worked to clear the roadway and support the ongoing investigation.
