Smith Co., TX – 17 Hospitalized After Crash Involving 18-Wheelers on I-20

Smith County, TX (August 30, 2025) – A major multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near Jim Hogg Road sent 17 people to the hospital on Saturday afternoon, August 30, according to officials. The accident, which occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m., involved at least six passenger vehicles and two 18-wheelers.

Smith County Sergeant Larry Christian confirmed that deputies, along with Texas DPS troopers, the Lindale Fire Department, and other emergency agencies, responded to the chaotic scene. Lindale Fire Chief Jeremy Larue reported that a total of 19 people were involved in the crash. Of those, 17 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Two others received medical attention at the scene and paramedics then released them. Emergency crews worked for hours to assist victims, remove wrecked vehicles, and clear the roadway. Authorities have not released further details regarding what led up to the collision. The Texas Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation.
