Smith Co., TX – Multi-Vehicle Truck Crash on I-20/MM 565 Leaves Injuries

Smith County, Texas (January 12, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision involving two 18-wheelers and additional passenger vehicles occurred on Interstate 20 eastbound in Smith County on Monday, January 12. According to Smith County Emergency Services District No. 2, the crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. near mile marker 565.

Preliminary information indicates that the large commercial trucks collided under circumstances that remain under investigation, leading to a chain reaction involving other vehicles traveling in the area. Several individuals sustained injuries as a result of the impact.

Those injured were evaluated at the scene by medical personnel, and at least one person was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The severity of the injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded and secured the scene while traffic control measures were put in place. The outside eastbound lane of I-20 was blocked for an extended period, with vehicles directed through the inside lane as crews worked to manage congestion and remove damaged vehicles.

Tow trucks were requested to assist with clearing the roadway. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
