Abilene, TX – Two 18-Wheelers Collide on I-20/Grape St. Exit, Driver Injured

Abilene, TX (August 20, 2025) – A collision between two 18-wheelers on Wednesday afternoon, August 20, left one driver injured along I-20 in Abilene. The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes near the Grape Street exit shortly before 1:30 p.m. According to Abilene police, one of the big rigs was traveling in the outside lane when the driver attempted to merge left.

The truck struck another 18-wheeler in the inside lane, which the merging driver reported he had not seen. The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and blocked multiple lanes of traffic.

Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene. One of the drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on-site by paramedics before being taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The other driver did not report injuries.

Investigators with the Abilene Police Department are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the crash.
