Conyers, GA – Four-Vehicle Crash on I-20/Hwy 138 Injures Police Officer
Conyers, GA (January 11, 2026) – A four-vehicle collision on I-20 near the Highway 138 exit resulted in injuries to a Conyers police officer late Sunday night, January 11, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes while traffic was moving through the area. State troopers reported that a Conyers police officer had pulled over to assist a stranded motorist driving a Hyundai Accent that was disabled due to a flat tire. The patrol vehicle was stopped on the shoulder with emergency lights activated while the officer assisted. While the officer was outside the vehicle, a Nissan Rogue traveling in the same direction failed to move over and struck the parked patrol car. The impact pushed the patrol vehicle forward into the rear of the Hyundai Accent.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the injured officer to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation. Authorities indicated that the officer’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. No other serious injuries were reported, and the remaining drivers were assessed at the scene.
The Nissan driver told troopers that he observed the patrol vehicle’s blue emergency lights but did not move over as required by law. The Georgia State Patrol issued a citation for failure to move over. Troopers continue to document the incident.
We extend our well wishes to the injured officer and hope for a smooth recovery.
