Richland Co., SC – Fatal Crash on I-20 W Near MM 70

Richland County, SC (January 10, 2026) – A deadly crash occurred Thursday afternoon on westbound Interstate 20 near the 70-mile marker in Richland County.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers responded after reports of a serious two-vehicle collision on January 8. Investigators said a 2014 Jeep travelled west on I-20 when the driver tried to change lanes. During the maneuver, the Jeep struck a minivan moving in the same direction.

After the impact, the Jeep left the roadway to the right. The vehicle then overturned. The Jeep’s driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The minivan driver escaped injury. A passenger inside the minivan suffered injuries and was transported to Prisma Health Richland for medical treatment. Officials have not released details about the passenger’s condition.

Troopers have not shared additional information about what caused the lane change.
