Elmo, TX – 1 Killed, 1 Injured in Two Crashes on I-20 EB Near MM 509
Elmo, TX (October 3, 2025) – Two separate crashes occurred on Wednesday night, October 1, on Interstate 20 eastbound near the 509-mile marker in Kaufman County, resulting in one death and another injury.
The first accident was reported at 9:23 p.m. and involved an 18-wheeler. Sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic along the interstate was brought to a complete stop and remained closed until about 2:00 a.m.
A second crash happened a short time later when a car struck a parked 18-wheeler that had no flashers activated. The truck driver was reportedly asleep in the cab at the time. The car’s driver, described as a young man, sustained only minor scratches. He was taken to the Elmo Fire Station, where he waited for family members traveling from Mississippi.
Traffic flow fully resumed around 3:30 a.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating both incidents to determine the causes and contributing factors.
