Hinds Co., MS – Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-20 WB Near MM 23

Hinds County, MS (October 4, 2025) – A Vicksburg woman lost her life on Friday afternoon, October 3, in a collision on Interstate 20 westbound involving two 18-wheelers and an SUV.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened shortly before 1:40 p.m. near mile marker 23. A 2020 Freightliner, driven by Tyrone Williams, 53, of Tampa, collided with a 2023 Honda Passport driven by Elizabeth Hope Nelson, 31, of Vicksburg. After impact, the Freightliner struck a 2014 Peterbilt operated by Christopher Yount, 43, of Brandon, who had a passenger, 20-year-old Christy Yount, also from Brandon.

Tragically, Nelson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional injuries were reported among the truck drivers or the passenger.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash and any contributing factors.
