Columbia, SC – Fatal Crash on I-20 WB Involving Two Vehicles

Columbia, SC (January 9, 2026) – A deadly two-vehicle crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, January 8, on Interstate 20 westbound in Columbia, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 3:00 p.m. while a Toyota minivan and a 2014 Jeep Liberty were travelling west on I-20. Investigators reported that the Jeep attempted to change lanes and struck the minivan during the manoeuvre.

The impact caused the Jeep to overturn. Emergency crews arrived shortly after the crash and found the Jeep driver unresponsive. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the driver’s name while notifying family members.

The minivan driver escaped without injuries. A passenger riding in the minivan suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials have not shared details about that passenger’s condition.
